Community Projects Director

Gate Theatre

January 2010 – October 2010 (maternity cover) & May 2011 ongoing

To develop and manage the delivery and focus of the Gate’s community programme and projects with individuals and groups within the community across Kensington and Chelsea. This includes fundraising activities, nurturing relationships with members of the community and partnership organisations, overseeing the work in freelance practitioners delivering projects to time and within budgets.

Whilst with the theatre in 2010, I worked on a range of projects: developing the Gate Masterclasses for emerging artists, ‘I’ll Take You There’ an outside promenade performance with young people from a local youth centre, ‘Flashback’ a dance and memory project and The Knowledge Emporium.

The Knowledge Emporium ran as part of Kensington and Chelsea’s In Transit Festival. The premise of the project was that everyone has a piece of knowledge, a story, idea or fact which makes them individual and unique. The stories were collected in the Big Book of Everything We Know which was located in a caravan designed into a 1950s sweet shop in the heart of Portobello Market. In exchange for a sweet, visitors were encouraged to leave their thoughts. As part of the project, we also visited a number of local older people’s groups to gather their ideas and stories. A performance was created out of all the findings in the book which took place in the middle of Portobello Market.

I will be rejoining the Gate Theatre as Community Projects Director in May 2011.
